Once you're in the game, I highly recommend you turn on some key Second Wave options for your first campaign:

Havens are your rebel cells. You assign them jobs:

Do not skip this tier. Laser weapons provide a crucial accuracy bonus (+5) that helps low-ranking soldiers land shots. Once you're in the game, I highly recommend

High-risk, high-reward flankers. Use Run and Gun to close distances and secure guaranteed shotgun kills.

Intel is the bottleneck. The ring allows you to gain intel and reduce the Avatar project.

Larger squads and heavier gear (like heavy armor or heavy weapons) drastically increase the time it takes to reach 100% infiltration.
